How a name points to a nakshatra and rashi
In the Vedic tradition, each of the 27 nakshatras is divided into four quarters called padas, and every pada has an auspicious starting syllable (naamakshar). Across the whole zodiac there are 108 padas, and they map onto the 12 rashis at exactly nine padas per rashi. Because a child is traditionally named with the syllable of their birth nakshatra-pada, the first sound of a name can be traced back to a nakshatra, a pada, and the rashi that pada falls in — the 'naam rashi', or moon sign by name.
